National Bubble Bath Day!

National Bubble Bath Day!

National Bubble Bath Day is January 8th! Who knew such a thing even existed? Well, maybe  Mr. Bubble and Rubber Duckie did.

So it got me thinking about those colorful pockets of soap and water filled with air that children (and some adults) are wild about! Whether it is a sea of bubbles in a warm and relaxing bath or bubbles floating in the air outside and children chasing after them, one thing is for sure; bubbles make us happy!

And happy is exactly what I was as I planned Sammy’s 4th “POP On By For A BUBBLY Good Time” Bubble Science Birthday Party! The great thing about themed birthday parties for children is that they will naturally tell you what their interests are and birthday parties can grow out of their fascinations. At the time, Sammy was infatuated with bubbles. Like a lot of children, he attended birthday parties of his friends and bubbles were part of party favor bags at the end. I would buy bubbles at the dollar store for him. He loved (and still does) taking bubble baths and I bought books on bubbles, and enjoyed reading them to him. So it was only natural that bubbles became the theme of Sammy’s birthday party.

Sammy also loves visiting our local Science Central Museum. Before the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, we would visit it weekly (sometimes even several times a week.) It was worth buying a family membership. One of the Birthday Party Activities they feature (members get a discount) is a Bubbles themed party. Their description of it is: Explore the world of suds while having a splashing good time for ages 3-5. This science hands-on party activity included liquid nitrogen ice cream for up to 30 participants, glow-in-the-dark necklaces, all day admission to the science museum, and a coupon for their next visit. Now it was time to plan!

I have always loved entertaining for adults and also children. It is one of the things I miss doing as a result of the pandemic. What follows in my blog post this week is the Bubble Science themed 4th Birthday Party for Sammy and the fun I had in designing a bubblelicious day for all!

When I noticed Sammy’s interest in bubbles, I researched books about bubbles and bought these. Sammy enjoyed learning all about bubbles and the adventures of bubbles and characters in books.

Books on the party theme also add a lovely touch to the main party table and these four books and two others made the cut.

Like most parents, I love capturing Sammy in many of his childhood experiences.

I also like creating his birthday party invitations with images that support the theme. The pictures that follow show the photo shoot we had to both catch the fun of bubbles floating through the beautiful air outside, and to capture the perfect image for his birthday party invitation.  I wanted the invitation to POP with an image of Sammy catching bubbles, the correct wording, and colors to match. I had fun stamping the envelopes as well.

I like to plan early and this involves everything from mailed invitations to last minute details. For Sammy’s Bubble Science Birthday Party, I researched online and found the perfect cake topper of a little boy blowing bubbles. I then found pastel colored bubbles for the cupcake toppers.

Thanks to yours truly, we have become a family of birthday party themed tee shirts. We have Paw Patrol tee shirts from Sammy’s 3rd birthday party and football tee shirts from his 5th birthday party (during covid-19 with the three of us inside of our home).

Something that my mother always taught us was to have Plan B and Plan C ready to go just in case. I ordered the perfect Bubble tee shirt for Sammy to wear and, sadly, it didn’t arrive on time. I am glad that I thought ahead and ordered this bright red tee shirt which said: “Four Ever Wild.”

I also found tee shirts for my hubby and I to wear that said: “But First, Bubbles.” Little did I know, that when I opened the package, they would read: “But First, Cocktails.” Hey! The show must go on. Right? Randy and I wore them and it was definitely a conversation starter! Parents of Sammy’s friends laughed for sure! I was also happy to have the vendor apologize and refund our money. Looking back, it is definitely funny now and I will use the vendor again.

For Sammy’s party, I wanted to make everything bubbles and science related. So I purchased a science themed package that included a science party birthday banner, one science mylar balloon, a tablecover, dinner plates, luncheon napkins, dessert plates, beverage napkins, and party cups.  For the party gift bags, I purchased science backpacks and filled them with goodies! The goodies included science favor boxes filled with science test tubes that had yummy, multi-color, chocolate-only M&M’s which I had fun packing (and sometimes eating). I also purchased science cellophane bags and put science tattoos in them. Then I sprinkled additional candy in the party favor boxes.

To bring additional touches to the bubbles theme, I also included long, multi-color bubble wands, bubble cupcake necklaces, little science notepads, and a pencil which all scientists need.

It’s time to PARTY!

Time for GOGGLES and BUBBLES!

Just look at the faces of Sammy’s friends having so much fun experimenting with Bubbles! Science should be hands-on, messy, and full of excitement!

Observing the Science Central Museum Scientists make liquid nitrogen ice cream for all of us and then eating it was SO COOL!

Time to have the entire science museum to ourselves to PLAY, DISCOVER and EXPERIMENT!

After playing all throughout the museum, everyone gathered in the cafeteria for pizza, chips, pretzels, MORE CUPCAKES, drinks, and a Birthday Cake with bubbles on top! We sang Happy Birthday to Sammy, ate cake, and socialized. And when it was time to say goodbye, we thanked everyone for coming and passed out party gift backpacks.

It is always beautiful when family can come into town to help us celebrate the Birthday Boy!

The party is over!

Sammy had so much FUN celebrating his 4th birthday with friends and family!

Look at that Bubble Wand Bubble!

Up one minute!

And down the next.

ALL BUBBLED OUT!

The End.
